Thinking outside dog.
Last night we slept near a park, and we really slept in. I woke up all warm, with scherzo snuggled in my arms snoring. When she sleeps in human orientation its so nice, but when she sleep horizontal on the bed and then lays on top of the my blankets it’s hell! She pushes me off the sleeping pad, pulls off my blankets, and though she’s 1/3rd my size she takes up 1/2 the bed.
We went snowboarding this afternoon and picked up a guy hitchhiking. He works the lifts at Bridger Bowl, lives in his van and has a “guard cat”. Well we decided to park the van next to his van because it happened to be right where we wanted to hike to snowboard. That was a big mistake because our guard dog spotted his guard cat and even though she hasn’t chased a cat in over a year had that thing trapped and sitting on the edge of it’s van’s window hissing and making deep throaty noises in under 30 seconds. Then we had to break out the treats for an impromptu training session because things were getting out of hand.
THE HIKE: Take MT-86 out of Bozeman. In about 17 miles turn right onto Bracket Creek Rd. Park at the trail head on the right. Walk back along Bracket Creek and cross MT-86 to the road on the right. Up that road about a mile you’ll find a nice slope for building jumps. The dingo gives this hike 9/10 babies. If she went feral she’d probably live here.

After that we hiked about a mile in and found the perfect spot to build a little kicker. The snow was really deep and scherzo quickly winded herself and then decided it was best to follow our trail so that she wasn’t post-holing the whole way up. see the video here

We all three spent a decent amount of time digging and eating the snow. Scherzo dug an old Fritos bag up from under four feet of snow and then ran around with it in her mouth, eating crumbs and chasing it when the wind caught it. When we finished our jump and hiked up she chased us as we snowboarded down and attacked us at the bottom.Mac attempted a 180 and instead did a 270, caught an edge and hit his head. Scherzo was right there licking his face as soon as he sat up. After about 5 hikes up and runs down scherzo decided to lay in the grass under a tree and eat a pine-cone. She took a nap there while we hiked up and down for an hour or two.
The day finished out for her with growling at a lurker, puppying it up for high pitched voices, and then jumping in the car of her own accord and hunkering down. It ended for us with coffee, skateboarding and free sushi. We kept skating after she went in the van. After today we’ve decided we need a bumper sticker that says “I’ve got more energy than my heeler.”
