Thinking outside dog.
It was the best of days, it was the worst of days. Scherzo got kicked in the head by a mule, fell through the ice, and got stung in the mouth by a bee all in one day.
We saw the light go on in her head, the idea forming, and then ziiing. she was gone running across the field to say hi to Mac’s mom and randy and oh hey, there are giant grumpy mules out there too. usually scherzo is calm until she looks up at the horse’s big eyes and head looking down at her, at which point she takes a jump to full boar excitement. but this time she went for the butt and the mule kicked her. there was a thump but no whining or tail between the legs, at which point we saw again the light go on and she ran screaming across the pasture back to us.
The slew was all frozen, thankfully not too deep where she fell in. It was actually amusing and not as scary as the other time it happened. As soon as she fell in she started swimming and then had her claws in the ice holding herself above water, just waiting, and looking at us. We had already agreed that if she fell through mac would save her since I’d done it last time. He laid down on the ice, grabbed her by the scruff and she was out and off and running once again.
I saw her shake her head as if the bee had stung her in the mouth and saw it lying there dead. I expected an allergic reaction and went to the van to get baby Benadryl and the homeopathic remedy Ledum which is good for swelling stings. I gave her the remedy right away, then we all hung around watching her and saw no swelling. It must just be yellow jackets she’s allergic to or maybe the homeopathic remedy really worked. Anyway I gave her one more dose later in the day just to be sure.
