I was sitting in the van at the grocery store today waiting for Sarroar to come back when a frumpy woman came out pushing a cart full of groceries. I’m not especially interested in watching people put their groceries away but this lady looked a bit haggard and I had nothing else to do while I listened to the radio.

She opened up the back of her Subaru and started cramming her groceries bags in among the junk. She got down to two bags but didn’t have any room left in the car. There was a black plastic garbage bag taking up a bunch of room and she looked around the parking lot then hefted it up and made for the nearest garbage can. She was having a hard time with whatever was in the bag and nearly dropped it half way to the garbage can.

As she was carrying it the plastic ripped and what looked like a paw slipped out. She got to the trash can, pried off the lid and shoved the bag in, then ran to her car, threw the last two bags of groceries in and took off. I went over and tore open the bag after she had left. There was an old dead, but still warm, Golden retriever in the bag.
